The Importance of Working with a Certified Personal Trainer
An
experienced, educated personal trainer has knowledge of the functions
and processes of the human body. Your trainer will review your health
history for necessary precautions and limitations and assess your
fitness level. A personal trainer can help motivate, teach and educate
you to improve your cardiovascular fitness, strength, flexibility and
basic nutrition. An effective trainer has a keen eye of proper
movements and techniques for maximum results and safety helping ensure
a productive and safe workout program to reach your goals. Most
trainers specialize in certain areas, so if you are looking to compete
in or pursue an athletic endeavor, bodybuilding or power lifting, hire
a trainer experienced in that area. If you are an individual with
physical limitations such as joint replacement, COPD, spinal issues,
metabolic disease, obesity, post re-hab therapy needs, etc., hire a
trainer that has worked extensively with these individuals. Be sure
your trainer has experience and is certified by an accredited
organization that requires hours of study and hands on training. Watch
out for the “get certified over the weekend” organizations.
When looking for a personal trainer look for certification by a
reputable organization such as The American Council on Exercise (ACE). ACE
is accredited by NCCA (National Commission for Certifying
Agencies). ACE is one of the few fitness organizations whose
programs are accredited. The International Health, Racquett and
Sportsclub Association (IHRSA) has recommended that club owners only
hire personal trainers certified by organizations accredited by
NCCA.
“Remember,
at any age you can achieve improved fitness for activities of daily
living, athletic performance, aesthetics, and most importantly your
health.”
